2016 Top 100 Restaurants in the World - Made in China

Grand Hyatt Beijing at Oriental Plaza’s signature restaurant Made in China received a prestigious recognition to be placed as the top Chinese restaurant on the 2016 “Elite Traveler Top 100 Restaurants in the world” list.

Made in China claimed the 36th spot on the prestigious Elite Traveler’s list, where more than half are American and European restaurants. According to the US-based Elite Traveler magazine, this guide features 100 restaurants, chosen by its readers, a market described as the wealthy and jet-setting crowd. By gathering the views, the magazine said that it has discovered where high net worth individuals have been eating in the past year, and which places have wowed the guests.

With the emphasis on the fine and fresh ingredients, Made in China’s signature dishes include classic Chinese favourites such as Old-fashion Peking duck from the wood-fired oven with classics condiments; The Famous ‘Beggars’ Chicken Filled with Mustard Green and Pork, Wrapped in Lotus Leave, Baked in Clay; Pan-Fried Duck Liver with Plum Chutney and Sesame Pancake; Crispy Mandarin Fish with Sweet and Sour sauce; Sizzling Sliced Lamb Flavoured with Cumin and Coriander; Honey Glazed King Prawns with Dried Chilli and Ginger and others.

Since opening its doors in 2003, Chef Kent Jin Qiang, the hotel’s Chinese Chef - Northern cuisine has been instrumental in leading Made in China to becoming the Chinese capital’s landmark restaurant for serving authentic Chinese cuisine.

“It is an incredible honour that Made in China is so highly ranked both internationally and locally. Kudos goes to my team. It is the dedication and the passion of every individual in my team to create a superb dining experience that has led to the success of Made in China.” said Chef Jin.

To create an unforgettable culinary experience for our guests, Chef Jin together with Grand Hyatt Beijing’s Executive Chef, Chef Martin Aw Yong, travel at least twice a year on culinary journeys around China to source for the highest quality local and seasonal ingredients making up China’s eight major cuisines. The duo has traveled extensively to many locations including Guangdong, Hunan, Anhui, Sichuan and Liaoning.

For all these culinary journeys, the philosophy remains “not to overcomplicate the food as the main ingredient is the star of the plate”, according to Chef Aw Yong.

“We want to bring the families together to enjoy home cooked dishes, served with the qualified ingredients from provinces around China”.
