Local Attractions in Beijing
Forbidden City
The Forbidden City, probably Beijing’s most prominent landmark, is the former palace of the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is located in the heart of Beijing.
Distance from hotel: 1.5 km/12 minutes’ walk

Tiananmen Square
Just opposite the front entrance to the Forbidden City lies Tiananmen and its famous Square, the world’s largest public square.  It encompasses significant historical icons, such as the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the Great Hall of the People and the China National Museum.

Temple of Heaven
This impressive Taoist construction is located in southern Beijing and was built in 1420, during the reign of Emperor Yongle.  The Temple grounds covers 2.73 sq km of parkland, comprising three main groups of constructions, built according to strict philosophical requirements.

Lama Temple
Also known as the Lamasery of Harmony and Peace, this site was originally built as an Imperial palace on the orders of Emperor Kangxi in 1694 and completed as a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in 1744, the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong.

Summer Palace
This extraordinary palace is situated northwest of Beijing and was built during the Qing Dynasty.  It covers an expanse of 2.9 sq km, three quarters of which is water.  In 1888, Empress Cixi diverted millions of tales of silver for its reconstruction.

The Great Wall
This magnificent 5,000 km structure was rebuilt and linked through many eras after it was first established by Emperor Qin Shi Huang of the Qin Dynasty in 221 B.C.  The three most popular and closest sections to Beijing are Badaling, Mutianyu and Simatai.
